About Us!

The Carpet One Group is the largest carpet retailing group in the world. The Queensland group was formed by John Hooper over 20 years ago and there are now over 1900 stores world wide, including Australia, New Zealand, Canada, USA and the UK.

Hoopers' philosophy is, "Our commitment is to help our customers choose the right floor covering. Our promise is to give them the best value for money and provide the most efficient and professional service at all times." Hoopers Carpet One is the longest established floor covering specialists in Ipswich and its expertise and knowledge is well recognised.

The Hooper name first became prominent in the city in the early 1850's, when the Robinson and Hooper coal mine opened at Redbank. It is believed this coal mine was one of Queensland's first.

Soon afterwards, the first coal mine in Tivoli was opened by John Wright, who has family ties with the Hooper family. The Hooper name has also been well-known in manufacturing and retailing in the city for almost 100 years.

Henry Tivoli Hooper was the first to become associated with that side of the city's business when he acquired the soap works at Churchchill. Henry's son Fred was well known in business circles in Ipswich for many years. He was associated with the Queensland Woollen Mills, Southerncross Collieries, the Ipswich Turf Club, Ipswich Grammar School and the Ipswich Show Society where he was on the committee and president for over 50 years.

Fred's son John was the founder and chairman of Carpet Consortium of Queensland, which is now known as Carpet One. The Hooper name became associated with carpet retailing in the city over 40 years ago and today is one of the most respected names in the state and certainly in the trade.

The Hooper name will continue to be linked to Ipswich, with John's son Andrew managing the business. Hoopers Carpet One is able to offer a prompt and efficient installation service in Ipswich and surrounding areas with full warranty on floorcoverings and installation. Hoopers Carpet One offers customers the best and most professional advice to ensure floor covering choices are best suited to any requirement at the most competitive prices. A full and comprehensive "shop at home" service is available through the Hoopers Carpet One mobile, fully equipped van.
