The Sunshine Coast region is located in South East Queensland, about 100 km north of Brisbane. The region is bounded by the Gympie region in the north and west, the Moreton Bay region in the south, and the Somerset region in the south-west. The Sunshine Coast is a diverse region with more than 200 km of coastline, picturesque hinterland towns, coastal urban centres, waterways, national parks, state forests, bushland, rural areas and scenic mountains.

Council aims to create a dynamic business environment that secures prosperity through sustainable growth and continues to add to the Sunshine Coast’s high quality of life.

The Sunshine Coast is recognised as one of the fastest growing regions, and is the fourth largest local government, in Australia. The population in the region has grown from 202,845 in 1996 to over 312,000 in 2008. Attracted to the region’s access to world-class services and facilities and desirable lifestyle, numerous businesses and professional services have chosen to establish themselves or relocate to the region over recent years.

The Sunshine Coast region has a diverse and buoyant economy ranging from tourism, manufacturing and agriculture to aviation and environmental technologies. The region has a Gross Regional Product (GRP) estimated at $10 billion (2008).

      • Council Meetings

      Sunshine Coast Council’s decision-making process is based on a three weekly cycle of two standing committees, namely the Performance & Service Committee & the Strategy & Planning Committee – each of which has a role and specific area of responsibility – and an Ordinary Meeting. The committees don't have any decision-making power. The committees make recommendations to council for determination at the Ordinary Meeting. Meetings are held at the Nambour, Tewantin & Caloundra council chambers on a rotational basis
